People thought the sun and the moon were something special.
人々は太陽と月は特別なものと考えていました。

From faraway times, Japanese people have liked the moon very much,
so many stories written about the moon are remaining.
はるか昔から日本人はとても月が好きなので、
月について書かれたものが多く残っています。

Taketori Monogatari is known as the oldest one in Japan.　→ What's 竹取物語 ?
竹取物語は日本最古のものとして知られています。

Konjaku Monogatari Shū says, rabbits live in the moon.　→ What's 今昔物語集 ?
今昔物語集には、ウサギが月に住んでいるという記述があります。

Do you know Tsukino Usagi, the main character of Sailor Moon?
"Usagi" means "rabbit."　→ What's セーラームーン ?
セーラームーンの主人公、月野うさぎを知っていますか？
「うさぎ」とは「兎」のことです。

31日ではない５つの月を「西向くサムライ」といいます。

"Nishi Mu-ku Samurai" means "Two（ni） four（shi） six（mu） nine（ku） eleven（samurai）," in other words, "February April June September November."
「西向くサムライ」とは「二 四 六 九 士」、つまり、「二月 四月 六月 九月 十一月」のことです。

In this case, Samurai（士） is decomposed with ten（十） and one（一）.
このとき、「士」は「十」と「一」に分解されます。
